2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

Stuttgart, Germany, February 8, 2017. There was a big party in a local jazz club with the core of Allianz MTV STUTTGART after the team claimed the German national cup in Mannheim defeating SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN – to account for the third national cup crown in the club’s history. However, the players of Allianz MTV STUTTGART were in fine form when hosting Czech champions Agel PROSTEJOV just over a week later. The Germans needed only 71 minutes to rally to a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-17, 25-14) to delight 1,100 fans in attendance at SCHARRena and make it one step closer to reaching the quarterfinals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

On that same night, the Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr Martin Schairer, awarded the players and coaching staff of Allianz MTV for bringing home the national cup trophy.

Guillermo Naranjo Hernández, head coach of Allianz MTV STUTTGART: “I am very happy with the performance of my team. Everything worked very well. Especially the service, which made our opponents struggle a lot.”

Michaela Mlejnkova, best scorer with 15 points for Allianz MTV STUTTGART and a member of the Czech national team as well, said: “It was very special to me to play a Czech team. It feels like you are even more motivated to perform well.”

Peter Goga, head coach of Agel PROSTEJOV: “Our attack, especially after defence, did not work at all tonight. Allianz MTV STUTTGART played much better than we did. They deserved the victory. When looking at the statistics, you see that they were better in all aspects of the game.”

Mareike Hindriksen, captain of Agel PROSTEJOV and former player of Allianz MTV STUTTGART: “I do not know what happened. I watched at least ten videos of STUTTGART, but we could not find a way to cope with their strong service. They were like shooting us out of the SCHARRena. You can fight as much as you want, but with no reception, nothing works in Volleyball.”
